Maggie’s Garden이라는 이름과 자연주의에 대한 욕구는 그들의 어린 시절에서 부터 시작된다. 슬한의 어머니는 “사람은 흙과 가까이 살아야한다” 는 뜻으로 2000년부터 환경을 위해 비건의 삶을 살며 가족들과 교외로 이사를 갔고, 작은 농사를 지으며 나무가 어떻게 자라고 열매가 어떻게 맺히는지를 알려주었다. 중고등학생 때 대안학교를 다니며 여름겨울마다 농촌활동을 많이 다니다보니 집에서 민트와 식물키우기가 취미가 되었다.

도희는 도시 생활을 벗어나 본 적이 없지만 어릴 때 군위에 사시며 농사를 짓던 조부모의 집에 방학 때 자주 놀러갔다. 시골은 논밭과 강 밖에 없어 재미없고 따분한 곳이라 생각했지만 성인이 된 후 서울에 살며 많은 사람과 높은 건물에 지쳤고 자연과 가까운 삶에 대해 생각하기 시작했다. 이러한 경험들은 둘의 삶에 영향을 주었고 그것은 음악으로 자연스레 나오게 되었다.

Maggie’s Garden은 가드닝팝을 연주하고 노래한다. 가드닝팝이란 햇살 아래에서 산들바람을 맞으며 자연과 함께 있을 때 듣기 좋은 음악이다. 자연과 함께 있다는 것은 근처 공원을 산책하는 일 일수도 있고 나만의 작은 정원을 가꾸거나 의자에 앉아서 흔들리는 나무를 바라보는 것이다. 도희와 슬한은 편안하고 자연스러운 느낌의 음악과 소리에 매료되었고 그러한 취향은 포크록, 포크팝 또는 인디포크로 모아졌는데 그들은 그것을 가드닝팝이라 부르기로 했다.

2026년에 발매될 첫 EP [Seedling]은 변화에 대한 이야기이다. 각각 서울과 부산에서 지내던 그들은 큰 도시에는 여유가 없다는 것과 자연과 가깝게 살고싶은 생각에 비교적 작은 도시인 천안으로 이주를 하게되었다. 도시에서의 편리함에 익숙해지는 것을 멀리하고 평온한 마음으로 새로운 시작을 바라는 마음이 음악과 가사에 담겨있다.

그들은 가까운 공원과 산으로 반려견과 산책을 다니며 주말농장을 빌려 여러 작물을 키우고 요리를 해먹으면서 도시에서의 오가닉한 삶을 꿈꾼다.

Maggie’s Garden is a Cheonan-based duo whose music grows from a shared desire for a slower, more sustainable way of living. Blending folk, indie pop, and gentle rock textures, they describe their sound as Gardening Pop - music made to be listened to in sunlight, with a soft breeze, close to nature.

The project brings together Sran and Dohee, who first met in 2024 while working on Dohee’s second full-length album Blue Comedy, where Sran participated as a guitarist and arranger. At the time, Sran was an active member of the indie band Bosudong Cooler. Drawn to each other’s musical sensibilities, they soon realised how many of their influences overlapped and decided to form a new band together.

The name Maggie’s Garden reflects both their musical roots and values. While exchanging favourite song titles, they were drawn to Bob Dylan’s “Maggie’s Farm,” later blending it with the Beatles’ “Octopus’s Garden” to create a name that naturally embodied warmth, simplicity, and growth.

Their connection to nature is rooted in their personal histories. Sran was raised with strong environmental values. His mother believed that people should live close to the earth and adopted a vegan lifestyle in 2000. The family then moved to the countryside, where Sran grew up learning about farming and nature firsthand. Dohee, raised in the city, spent childhood vacations at her grandparents’ farm. Though she once found rural life dull, years of living in Seoul eventually left her longing for quieter surroundings and a life closer to nature.

Having lived in large cities like Seoul and Busan, both grew weary of the pace and density of urban life. Seeking more breathing room, they relocated to Cheonan, a smaller city where they could remain connected to nature while still living in the city.

Musically, Maggie’s Garden draws from folk rock, folk pop, and indie folk influences. Sran was shaped by artists like the Beatles, Nick Drake, Big Thief, and Jeff Tweedy, while Dohee’s background spans pop, electronic music, trip-hop, and later folk artists such as Foxwarren and Adrianne Lenker. Where these tastes meet, they call it Gardening Pop.

Gardening Pop, as they define it, is music meant to accompany moments spent with nature, walking through a park, tending a small garden, or quietly watching trees sway. It is gentle, organic, and unforced.

Their debut EP, Seedling, scheduled for release in 2026, reflects themes of change and new beginnings. The music captures a wish to step away from urban convenience and cultivate a more intentional, peaceful life. Today, Maggie’s Garden continues to live this philosophy, walking their dog through nearby parks and mountains, renting a weekend farm, growing food, and trying to live as organically as possible within the city.
