이탈리아계라는 배경과 매력적인 재즈 보이스를 가진 뮤지션 니아(Niia)는 우아한 컨템포러리 어반 사운드와 퓨쳐 재즈를 섞은 음악의 선구자다. 뉴욕타임즈, 롤링스톤, 가디언, 인터뷰, 원더랜드 그리고 하퍼스바자 등의 매체들에게 칭송을 받았고 샤넬 뷰티, 라메르, 캘빈 클라인 등 유명 브랜드에게 러브콜을 받았다.
재즈민 설리번(Jazmine Sullivan), 크루앙빈의 로라 리(Laura Lee), 조나단 윌슨슨(Jonathan Wilson) 등과 콜라보를 진행했고 조자 스미스(Jorja Smith), 디 엑스엑스(The xx) 등과 함께 무대에 올랐다. 니아는 최근 발매한 앰비언트 앨범 [Mouthful of Salt]로 어떤 장르에서든 자신만의 확고한 영역을 구축할 수 있다는 걸 증명했다.
A prodigious musician with an Italian and jazz voice background, Niia (pronounced Nye-uh) pioneers contemporary urban elegance mixed with future jazz. She’s received praise from The New York Times, Rolling Stone, The Guardian, Interview, Wonderland, & Harper’s Bazaar and has worked with Chanel Beauty, La Mer, Calvin Klein + more.
She’s collaborated with Jazmine Sullivan, Laura Lee (Khruangbin), Jonathan Wilson & shared stages with Jorja Smith & The xx. Her most recent ambient album Mouthful of Salt showcases Niia’s unique ability to carve space for herself in any genre.

소울렛 soullette
싱어송라이터 소울렛 (Soullette)은 기억에 있는 어린 시절부터 음악이 자신의 길이라 느끼며 자라났다. 중국에서 중학교를 나오고 미국으로 건너가 버클리 음대를 졸업한 후 한국에서 몇 곡의 싱글을 발표하는 전 과정은 본인의 음악을 탐색하는 여정이 되었다. 수년 전 친구가 우연히 소개한 음악가 ‘에리카 바두(Erykah Badu)’는 소울렛의 현재와 미래를 영원히 바꿔낸다. 에리카 바두의 음악과 메시지, 철학은 그때까지의 음악 세계를 모두 해체할 만한 충격이었고 이후 그가 추구하게 될 이상성으로 자리 잡는다. 소울렛은 뮤지션으로서의 자아와 영혼을 탐구하고자 하는 의지를 담아 지은 이름이다. ‘영혼(Soul)’이란 단어에 체구가 작아 ‘작은’을 의미하는 프랑스 접미사 ‘-ette’을 더했다. 채식주의자에 술과 담배를 하지 않고 정신과 건강의 조화를 중시하는 전체론자인 그의 취미는 일기 쓰기이다.
음악의 본질에 다가가는 자세로서 오랜 시간 나다움을 궁리했던 소울렛은 이제 있는 그대로의 모습을 기꺼이 마주하고 포용하는 법을 배웠다. 첫 번째 EP 앨범 제목이 [생일 生日]인 까닭이다. 끊임 없이 존재하며 진화하고 있는 뮤지션으로서의 새로운 탄생(Re-birth)을 의미한다. 소울렛의 시그니쳐라고 할 수 있는 감각을 간지럽히는 매혹적인 목소리와 담대한 태도는 훨씬 더 자유로워졌다. 곡의 결마다 탄탄하게 묻어나는 농밀해진 자기애와 자신감을 내뿜으며 생일 파티의 주인공으로서 리스너들을 맞이하고 있다.
Strutting onto the Korean soul scene armed with a silken voice and a penchant for sass is KPOP’s latest initiate, Soullette. Her songs ooze self-love and confidence, traversing themes of reflection and growth; of unleashing, facing, accepting, healing, returning and repeating.
Soullette’s soundscapes of nu jazz, neo-soul, RnB and pop are offered with an integrity and wisdom beyond her years. With last year’s celebrated ‘White Clouds’ (which appeared on the hit Netflix series My Holo Love) Soullette has already earned her title as a force to be reckoned with and is growing ever stronger with each release.
The rising young artist is spending the remainder of 2021 preparing for the release of her anticipated debut EP, 생일 (‘Birthday’ in English). The EP, serving the same slick production and staunch lyricism that Soullette has come to be known for, will soundtrack the bold next steps in her undoubtedly vast career ahead and is sure to cement her as Korean soul’s most exciting new export.
